When travelling places, there are considerations that drivers need to take before setting off. But, this is trickier for those driving electric vehicles. When do you charge your vehicle? Will you have enough to make certain journeys in remote locations? How many EV charger points are available? This, however, should not stop those wanting to go on an adventure in the UK.
As electric vehicles become more popular, there are various charging points available in some of the UK’s most beautiful and most off-grid destinations.
Lake District, Cumbria
The Lake District has been a popular driving destination in the UK. Known for their lakes, mountains and the inspiration for literary classics such as Beatrix Potter and Arthur Ransome. And for EV drivers wanting to explore the Lake District, never fear! There are many EV charger points available throughout the area.
The installation of EV charger points is one of the Lake District National Park Authority’s low-carbon projects aimed at making the Lake District a cleaner and more sustainable place. The Lake District National Park Authority has now accepted multiple BMW i3s as a result of the climate change emergency, ensuring that their fleet emits zero emissions and thereby reducing the consequences of poor local air quality.
The Lake District National Park Authority currently has a total of 28 electric vehicle charging stations, allowing fleet drivers and EV drivers alike to recharge quickly.
Snowdonia National Park
Snowdonia is Wales’ largest National Park, with an area of 823 square miles. Eryri’s scenery is steeped in culture, history, and legacy, and the Welsh language is part of the daily fabric of the area, which is home to approximately 26,000 people. Every year, about 4 million visitors come to Eryri to see its towering peaks and breathtaking valleys.
In the surrounding areas of Snowdonia, there have been various EV charger points installed to ensure inclusivity for all drivers. This year, there has been a cluster of new charging solutions for EV drivers, including 8 120kW InstaVolt charging which will add 100 miles in just 15 minutes.
Yorkshire Dales
The Yorkshire Dales offers hikers spectacle views of valleys, cliff faces and vast amounts of farmlands in Northern England. Throughout modern cinema, the Dales are heavily featured in film series such as Harry Potter and most recently, as part of the Tour de France leg.
The 7kw devices are compatible with all-electric vehicles. The first 15 minutes are free to use and after 25p per kWh. Starting in 2020, it begins a revolution for parks to become fully inclusive for all drivers, not just petrol and diesel.
Portable EV Chargers
However, though these public charging stations may help certain drivers, are there still enough to meet the vast amount of traffic these popular destinations receive? EV drivers should consider hiring portable EV chargers for these journeys to cut time spent in queues. All to ensure you will have enough charge to make it home.
Simply, find a suitable location for your vehicle to park and charge. Spend time in your destination, exploring. Then, come back to your fully charged vehicle.
