Why Are Drivers Switching To Electric Vehicles?

Studies have shown that the number of drivers considering transitioning to an electric vehicle (EV) is steadily rising. The YouGov survey found that 67% of its respondents would make the change, stating a variety of reasons. Whether this is due to the prices of petrol and diesel, or that electric cars have more EV charging solutions; carbon-free vehicles are becoming more sought after.

Here are a few reasons why drivers are considering switching to an EV.

The 2030 Ban

Here at Elite EV Charge, we have already mentioned the 2030 ban on sales of new fossil-fuelled cars. This is in line with the UK’s government steering towards more carbon-free solutions in an effort to lower the planet’s carbon footprint by not continuing the manufacturing of petrol and diesel vehicles. This is not expected to be an immediate change, however gradually, the country will have more and more electric vehicles on the road. Just some sooner rather than later.

Over half of younger drivers have said they are likely to switch to all-electric vehicles. Drivers between the ages of 16 and 49, taking the 2030 band into consideration, will most likely prefer to get ahead of the change; rather than buying a new petrol car, just to change it a couple of years later. This is key, especially for those who are learning to drive and are thinking about what their first car should be.

Tax Benefits

There are many tax benefits to driving an EV. Vehicle tax (or “road tax”) is a personal tax that most drivers will have to pay. Pure electric cars do not have to pay this, whilst hybrids can pay anything between £0 and £135; depending on their levels of CO2. This, for some, is enough incentive to convert to an electric car as it will save money that beforehand, came out of accounts monthly.

Also, for those living in London, electric cars do not have to pay the congestion charge of £15 per day between 7 AM and 10 PM. The Mayor implemented this strategy to convince drivers to switch to carbon-free solutions, in an attempt to make the country have zero emissions by 2050. Whether this will happen, the tactic has worked, as drivers now more than ever are switching to electric vehicles.

Environmental Advantages on EV Charging Solutions

However, it’s not just personal gain. There are many environmental benefits that factor in the choice to switch. An electric vehicle reduces smog pollution and cuts greenhouse gases; with just one electric vehicle saving an average of 1.5 million grams of CO2.

In major cities such as London and Manchester, EVs help with noise pollution also. An electric vehicle is must quieter than petrol or diesel cars and will help create a calmer atmosphere in major locations.

However, there still is a high percentage of drivers that are not considering switching to an electric vehicle. In the UK, one study found that 26.7% of drivers will avoid having an EV, due to a lack of knowledge and a fear of no available EV charging solutions. But this is not true. There are many different methods to make sure your vehicle remains connected at all times. Work with EV charging companies to find out more information.

EV Charging Solutions

Elite EV Charge provides temporary and permanent EV charging solutions for vehicles all over the UK. We understand the benefits of making the switch to carbon-free cars but, how do you ensure that you remain charged on long and off-grid journeys? Portable EV charging solutions mean that EV drivers can decide where and when they decide to fill up, rather than having to queue at electric vehicle charging stations.
