Which UK Family-Friendly Attractions Have Electric Car Charging Points?

As the weather starts to become nicer and pupils have been let out of school, many families look for days out for both adults and children. In the UK, there is a wide variety of family-friendly attractions suitable for all ages. But, what about the electric car charging points available? It’s all fun and games going on a rollercoaster until you get back to your car and realise you don’t have enough charge to make it home.

Yet, never fear. Like technology, attractions too have evolved and have become more inclusive for all drivers. Find out more here.

Brockhole – Lake District

Based in the Lake District between Windermere and Ambleside, Brockhole and its outdoor activity centre are fun for all the family. They have a variety of outdoor and indoor activities; including, an adventure playground and an option for boat hire and water sports.

As it is located in the Lake District, EV drivers may fear that there will be no electric vehicle chargers available, due to the remote location. However, Brockhole has several electric car charging points available, with the profits going towards the conservation of the Lake District National Park. So, drivers can be assured that there are chargers available and feel good that the money spent is going to a noble cause.

Thorpe Park – Surrey

Home to the fastest rollercoaster in the UK (Stealth), Thorpe Park is ideally located near the nation’s capital. With a mix of both adrenaline and rides aimed at small children, there is a little bit of everything for any member of a family.

For EV drivers, at Thorpe Park Resort, there are 4 electric car charging points available. Those wanting to use one of these points whilst at the resort will need to purchase a car parking ticket. The cost for using these chargers will be included in the price. However, as there are only 4, there may be certain EV drivers that are unable to use these charging facilities. As more drivers are converting to electric vehicles, there seems to be not enough chargers to meet demand. Especially in cases where there can be tens of thousand visitors each day. With this in mind, portable chargers are worth considering

Diggerland – Various

Now for younger children. One of the newer theme park franchises, there are Diggerlands in Kent, Devon, Durham and in Castleford.

At each location, Diggerland theme park has electric vehicle charging stations, specifically Tesla Destination Chargers (up to 11kW). For paying Diggerland visitors or guests of EVision Electric Vehicles, the chargers are free. EV drivers who aren’t visiting the theme park still can plug in, paying a flat cost of £5 for a 2-hour period.

Blackpool Pleasure Beach – Lancashire

With a variety of entertainment options, including live shows, Ripley’s Believe it Not and crazy golf. Blackpool Pleasure Beach is one of the most recognisable and popular theme park attractions in the UK.

Though the theme park opened in 1896 and is one of the oldest attractions in the UK, that does not mean Blackpool Pleasure Beach has not kept up with the changing times. The theme park has ensured drivers feel inclusive and is promoted on their website that they are “EV friendly”. On-site, there are 2 7kW charging bays available for visitors with Type 2 universal sockets.

Chester Zoo – Cheshire

Frequently found in lists of the best zoos in the world, Chester Zoo is roughly 125 acres in size and is located in Cheshire. With roughly 400 animal species and many on the point of extinction, you will need a full day to experience what the zoo has to offer. Perfect for families of all shapes and sizes.

A zoo this size is expected to provide for all! And that’s no exception with the electric car charging points available. There are 26 EV chargers available, each offering 7kW. Compared to other locations, that typically have 1-5, this is a positive step in the right direction.

Elite EV Charge

But what about if there are not enough chargers to meet the demand? Especially in locations that have a vast number of visitors every day. And that’s not even taking into account when schools have broken up for summer. Ensure that your electric vehicle will have enough charge to make the journey home by renting your own portable electric vehicle charger.

Elite EV Charge provides temporary and permanent mobile electric car charging points for drivers across the UK. Whether this is destination charging or hiring charge points for events; we advocate the use of portable EV chargers to help lower the planet’s carbon footprint. One charger at a time.
